Abortion Is Illegal in Alabama, But It Hasn’t Gone Away
Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022, abortion is illegal in Alabama under the Human Life Protection Act. This law protects unborn children from the moment of conception.
Because of this law, abortion clinics across our state have closed their doors. Many people assume that means abortion is over in Alabama, but it hasn’t ended. It has simply moved out of the clinic and into bathrooms, dorm rooms, and bedrooms across the state.
The Rise of the Abortion Pill
The most common form of abortion in America today is the abortion pill; a two-drug combination (mifepristone and misoprostol) used to end pregnancies. In states where abortion is banned, women are being targeted online by websites that promise to ship these pills “discreetly,” often for free and with minimal warnings or medical oversight.
Some of these sites even tell women:
“You don’t need a positive pregnancy test. If you think you might be pregnant, just take the pills.”
That advice is reckless and dangerous.
Ignoring FDA Guidelines
According to the FDA, before taking abortion pills:
A woman must have a positive pregnancy test; and
A healthcare provider must confirm an intrauterine pregnancy (meaning the baby is in the uterus, not in the fallopian tube).
And many more guidelines,
Online abortion providers often skip these steps entirely, putting women’s lives at risk.
The Fear That Keeps Women Home
Perhaps most disturbing, some abortion pill websites tell women in states like Alabama not to seek medical care if something goes wrong, warning them they could be arrested or reported to the police.
That’s simply not true. Women cannot be prosecuted for seeking medical help for a complication.
But because these lies are spreading, women are staying home, bleeding, afraid, and alone, and some women have died as a result.
These are tragedies that could have been prevented.
The Real Truth: You Are Not Alone
No woman should have to face fear, pain, or isolation during a pregnancy, planned or unplanned. The abortion pill doesn’t solve a crisis; it creates new ones.
If you or someone you know has taken the abortion pill and regrets it, help is available. The Abortion Pill Reversal protocol may be able to save the pregnancy if treatment begins quickly after taking the first pill (mifepristone).
If you’re unsure what to do, or if you’re experiencing pain, bleeding, or fear after taking abortion pills, please seek medical attention immediately. You will not be arrested for getting medical help.
